Submission Guidelines

Deadline for Abstracts – June 30, 2006.
Note: For students wishing to be considered for grant funding to attend and present at mLearn 2006.

All submissions are expected to be in APA style/format. For more information on writing in APA style.

Abstracts are to be submitted online

Book of Abstracts

A Book of Abstracts will be published, which will be available to contributors/delegates at registration. This Book of Abstracts will contain an international book number (ISBN) to allow future worldwide library reference. The ‘Book’ will be available in both print and online formats.

Publication of the Conference Proceedings

An edited Book of Conference Proceedings will be published, in the same manner as the Book of Abstracts (i.e. with an ISBN to allow future worldwide library reference). This should be available for distribution 6 months after the conference date.

It is expected that authors will complete their papers in time for presentation at the conference and will submit those papers for publication in the Book of Conference Proceedings prior to Novermber 15, 2006.

Publication of selected papers

It is envisaged that an edited, peer-reviewed post-conference publication will include a selection of the most relevant and influential papers.

Copyright

In all cases copyright for abstracts and papers written for the conference will be retained by the individual author/s. However, the Conference Program Committee has the right to publish such work submitted to the conference, in the forms of the Book of Abstracts, Conference Proceedings, and on the mLearn 2006 website.

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

Workshop length: Half day (3-3.5 hours) or Full day (7 hours)
AV equipment provided: PC, Projector, Audio
Abstract length: 500 words maximum

 

  • Pre-conference Workshops should provide well-organised learning opportunities for attendees. They should focus on skills development and or advanced technical training in an area related to the topics of interest. Workshops should not be based on an elaborative information session. Workshops should involve hands-on experience with hardware/software/content/equipment provided.
  • Proposals for pre-conference workshops will be selected on the basis of the instructors' qualifications, expertise and experience, as well as the relevance of the topic.
  • Pre-conference Workshop proposals must include:
    • Description of the aims and objectives
    • Intended audience (experience level and prerequisites)
    • Proposed length (half or full day)
    • Full details and abbreviated CV of the instructor(s)
    • List of additional presentation tools required (e.g. flip chart, OHP)

LONG PAPER PRESENTATION

Presentation time: 30 minutes + 15 minutes for questions/discussions
AV equipment provided: PC, Data projector, Audio
Abstract length: 500 words maximum

 

  • Papers must present reports of significant work in research, development and applications with regards to one or more of the conference topics of interest.
  • Note that all ‘long papers’ will be subjected to a peer review process with the view to be published in an accredited international journal.

SHORT PAPER PRESENTATION

Presentation time: 15 minutes + 5 minutes for questions/discussions
AV equipment provided: PC, Data projector, Audio
Abstract length: 500 words maximum

  • Short papers are expected to present reports of significant work in research, development and applications with regards to one or more of the conference topics of interest.
  • Note that all ‘short papers’ submitted will be subjected to a peer review process with the view to be published in an accredited international journal.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Presentation time: n/a Posters will be on display during the conference
Abstract length: 500 words maximum

  • Poster presentations must present reports of significant work in research, development and applications with regards to one or more of the conference topics of interest.
  • Poster presentation abstracts will be included in the conference Book of Abstracts.

TECHNICAL SHOWCASES

Presentation time: 20 minutes + 10 minutes for questions/discussion
AV equipment provided: PC, Data projector, Audio
Abstract length: 500 words maximum

  • This category is designed to accommodate both academic and non-academic technology researchers, but is especially aimed at non-academic developers who are usually operating at the cutting edge of technologies and are thus not able to provide their latest research before a couple of weeks prior to the conference date.
  • Technical Showcases enable researchers and developers to demonstrate, discuss and share their latest projects and developments. Showcases should focus on research and development (R&D) and can include hardware, software, applications, devices, tools and equipment. Showcases should also inform the audience of future directions.
  • Note that Technical Showcase presenters will be required to arrange for their own equipment, software and hardware.
  • Technical Showcase abstracts will be included in the conference Book of Abstracts.
  • Note that any full technical papers submitted will be subjected to a peer review process with the view to be published in an accredited international journal.

PANEL/ROUDTABLE

Presentation time: 30 minutes + 30 minutes for questions/discussions
AV equipment provided: PC, Data projector, Audio
Abstract length: 500 words maximum

  • A Panel, consisting of a minimum of 2 people, with not more than two panel members from the same institution or company, present their views and arguments on a specific theme or issue related to any of the topics of interest, and then discusses them with the audience.
  • Panel selection will be based on the relevance and originality of the topic, expertise and experience of the panellists, as well as the envisaged contribution that the panel session may have towards research and development and dialogue with regards to the selected topic.
  • Submissions should include an outline of how the panel will be organized.
  • Panels will be included in the conference Book of Abstracts.
  • Note that all papers submitted will be subjected to a peer review process with the view to be published in an accredited international journal.

PRODUCTS/SERVICES SHOWCASES

Presentation time: 20 minutes + 10 minutes for questions/discussions
AV equipment provided: PC, Data projector, Audio
Abstract length: 500 words maximum

  • Product/Service Showcases provides the opportunity for companies to demonstrate and discuss their products, services, developments and applications. Sales are permitted.
  • Note that Product/Services Showcase presenters will be required to arrange for their own equipment, software and hardware.
  • Proposals for showcases must include:
    • An indication if products/services will be available for sales
    • Full details of the presenter and/or company profile

“PAPERS-ON-THE-FLY”

Presentation time: 10 minutes + 5 minutes for questions/discussion
AV equipment provided: PC, Data projector, Audio

Papers-On-The-Fly provides an opportunity for individuals to present cutting/leading edge research.

A set block of time and location will be designated at mLearn 2006 to allow presenters to share information that was not available at the time abstracts were submitted.

A Call for Papers will be made between September 15th and 30th. In addition, presenters will have an opportunity to ‘sign up’ for a presentation space at the conference.

Were the proceedings from this conference ever published - in print or online? I see that previous and subsequent proceedings have been made available but have not been able to locate the papers for this conference.
